A message from Glen Todd, Owner of The Derby Bar & Grill

We have been closely following the development and impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Our mission has always been to provide the best guest experience possible, and as the situation has evolved, we have been following the guidance of health authorities in BC, taking steps to ensure the safety of our guests and our people.

The Derby has implemented the following precautionary measures, in addition to the rigorous sanitation standards already in place:

  • We are now operating at 50% capacity to encourage more space between guests
  • Guests are being seated further apart to allow for social distancing between tables
  • Maximum party size is 6
  • All menus are being sanitized after each use
  • All tables,chairs, and adjacent areas are being disinfected between guest seatings
  • Only bussers will take away used dishes and will not be permitted to touch sanitized dishware and utensils
  • All food preparation areas, door handles, switches, and frequently touched surfaces are being disinfected several times per day. All condiment bottles as well as point of sale machines are being sanitized after each use
  • All business travel has been suspended. Additionally, employees are required to complete health and contact questionnaires regularly. Staff temperatures are taken at the start of each shift
  • Staff members who are sick or displaying symptoms have been instructed to not report to work, and are not permitted to return until fully recovered
  • All staff members are required to wear surgical-style masks
  • Traffic inside the restaurant is one-way
  • Take Out customers will use a take out window located outside the main restaurant area to avoid unnecessary traffic

Our guests, our people, and the community we serve are what make The Derby such a special place in our community. As we continue to navigate this new landscape, our unwavering commitment to providing a safe, comfortable and memorable experience is stronger than ever. In turn, to protect the safety of our guests and staff, we ask our clients to refrain from dining with us if they are feeling any symptoms of COVID-19, or if they have potentially been exposed to the virus.

As an organization, we will continue to monitor the evolving situation, taking guidance from the Public Health Agency of Canada, BC Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and local health authorities, and we will update our practices as new details and recommendations emerge.
